Our Network

We develop community based partnerships and support capacity building through the VT Engage AmeriCorps VISTA Network.

The AmeriCorps VISTA program serves communities across the U.S., with 80,000 members working annually to address poverty issues.

AmeriCorps VISTAOur  members provide capacity building resources to community organizations. These efforts include building infrastructure, expanding community partnerships, securing long-term resources, coordinating training for participants, and fundraising.

The relationship to Virginia Tech offers organizations and VISTAs greater support during their project. Through our network, we build collaborative partnerships with the community and provide increased service opportunities for Virginia Tech students.

Now Hiring for August 2015

The Successfully Aging at Home in the New River Valley project, now approaching its 3rd year, was developed to help residents ‘age in place’ – to remain living in their homes, in the communities they love, near their friends and family.

The prospective VISTA will contribute to this mission through collaboration with a variety of community, governmental, and educational organizations and the Aging in Place Leadership Team. The VISTA will coordinate the expertise and resources that each organization offers. Ultimately, the VISTA will support the ability to age in place by addressing two critical needs: home accessibility and supportive services.

A primary role of the VISTA will be to help launch a ‘Time Bank’ – a community-based network of reciprocal service that connects neighbors to both give and receive assistance, the key being: everyone has something to give, and everyone has something to gain. Read more about the position here.

Apply today!

The VISTA position will begin in August 2015. For information please contact Perry Martin of the VT Engage VISTA Network at pm(Replace this parenthesis with the @ sign)vt.edu or Elisabeth Willis at ewillis(Replace this parenthesis with the @ sign)blacksburg.gov.
